Baseball, Baseball, Baseball... :)

Good morning! I have decided to start this blog to share with everyone the highlights of our baseball season. For a little recap; Mark has moved up this year to National League playing for the 'Rays'. He is a very versitile player which is a huge benefit. He has played catcher for quite some time and loves the position; however, he also pitches and plays great second and outfield. He has always shined in previous leagues but has met some transitional challenges moving up this season. I don't think he was completely prepared for these kids not only being bigger than he, but they are older, faster, stronger. It is ok, he now is realizing what we have told him for years, which is that he was born a baseball player; there is always room to improve. He was told by his coaches at a practice this last week that he will not be catching due to lack of strength getting the ball to second base. This of course broke his spirit for a bit, but like we told him, he is very versitile on the baseball field and plays great 2nd and outfield! Following this conversation with his coaches, he played outfield in the next game...made 3 amazing outs as well as several great plays. I love watching him play the game he loves so much! I was not able to watch his game on Thursday night as I was at Shawn's game, but he was so excited to have hit a ball 'that almost went over the fence mom!'. This is a hit that he still is waking up in the morning saying, 'mom, I just still can't believe I made a hit that almost went over the fence!'. Matt and I will begin working with him on his strengthing and practice, I think he has been humbled and will only continue improving.

Mark is also currently taking a golf clinic on Wednesday afternoons :). He began playing golf with his poppa during the summers and has really developed an appreciation and enjoyment of the game. He has just begun the clinic, but is really enjoying it...I think he is also enjoying the other kids in the clinic as well.

Shawn is also playing baseball this season. He has moved up to American League, the 'Twins' and is playing for a coach we really like. He is one of 3 in the 4th grade at his school to have moved up and is very proud of this. Shawn cracks me up...he is so stoic, private and for the most part, quiet. He plays football and has always been defined by football. He has played baseball since t-ball and has always been quick to tell anyone and everyone that he hates baseball and is only doing this because his parents make him...LOL. I think many, including Shawn himself, has underestimated his athletic ability. Anyway...he is doing great this season! He is playing catcher and outfield. He has really come into his own and having fun! Of course now when you ask him if he likes baseball...he will say, 'well...it is kind of fun' :)...he makes me LAUGH!

We are so incredibly proud of our boys in all that they are and do; I hope to post regular updates as the season continues. Between practice and games, we are generally on the fields each night during the week...we are all exhausted, but LOVE it and would not have any other way!!!

I wish everyone a blessed Easter!
